Deirdre holds a Master’s degree (Hons) in Art Psychotherapy; a H.Dip. (Hons) Art & Design Teaching; a Professional Cert in CBT; and is a fully accredited member of IACAT.
Deirdre integrates creative and verbal techniques in keeping with the person centred, psychodynamic approach. Her style is one of active collaboration where client and therapist work together around specific or emerging needs. Deirdre believes that we hold an innate ability to make sense of personal crises through the eyes and ears of another. Art can assist in this meaning-making process, offering a valuable perspective on patterned behaviour, unhelpful thinking, emotional distress/dysregulation and physiological symptoms. Understanding our mind/body responses as something learnt and protective is at the core of Deirdre’s work.
Deirdre welcomes all ages where she works within a framework of safety, respect and compassion. No artistic skill or training is necessary to engage in this practice. Deirdre honours the individual, their story and where they are at this moment in time.
The following are some of the areas that Deirdre works with:
Anxious thoughts and behaviours
Low mood and lack of direction
Change and transitions
